Could an early spring start the month of March in Southeast Michigan?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their weekly updated weather outlook guidance for the next 8-14 days across the country. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on Feb. 22, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid from March 1-7, 2024.

Michigan temperature outlook for first week of March

  • If you’re hoping for a warm March, the odds are in your favor: The NOAA outlook shows a 90-100% chance Michigan will see above average temperatures in the first week of March.
  • The average high temp in March for the Detroit area is 45.

Michigan precipitation outlook for next 8-14 days

  • The NOAA outlook shows near normal chances for average precipitation in Metro Detroit, but 33-40% chance to see above average precipitation for the rest of Michigan, and most of the Midwest.
