Winter making a hard comeback: What to expect Metro Detroit

Temps tumble, snow possible on Wednesday

4Warn Weather – The only thing we’ve missed in the last 24 hours is watching leaves on the trees change colors. That’s because it feels like we will encounter almost every season within a day’s time.

Coming off a record-setting Tuesday as high temperatures surged into the 70s (73 degrees, to be exact, making yesterday the warmest day in February ever in Metro Detroit) and a night of severe storms that felt more like summer than the end of winter, winter will be making a harsh comeback on this Wednesday.

As we wait to see how strong the tornado was in Grand Blanc overnight, our attention is shifting to a wind advisory for all of Southeast Michigan today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph.

Temps drop sharply

Temperatures will tumble as a cold front sweeps through, resulting in a sharply colder airmass building in. That means you’ll need the full winter gear as you leave the house today.

Temperatures will be in the mid-30s by the lunch hour, and 20s this afternoon. The wind chill will make those temperatures feel like the teens and single digits this afternoon.

With those “feels-like” temperatures, we will be nearly 60 degrees cooler than we were Tuesday afternoon.

We can’t rule out flurries flying this afternoon as well. Flurries are possible across Metro Detroit, but more likely in counties more north.

Tonight’s sunset is at 6:22 p.m

Seasonal Thursday

Thursday will seasonal with highs in the upper 30s.

The cold snap will end on Friday, Mar. 1! We’ll start warming up into the weekend with highs on either side of 60 degrees.

We’ll also stay relatively dry until our next best chance for rain arrives next Tuesday.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, severe storms continue to push through the Ohio Valley Wednesday morning. A strong winter storm will produce impacts across the West, including heavy snow, gusty winds and rain. Critical fire weather conditions will continue across the Texas Panhandle into Oklahoma through Wednesday evening.
