Windy, cold weather to be replaced by sunshine, warmup in Metro Detroit

Metro Detroit is getting a reminder that it is still winter

Lows in the 20s, which will be combined with breezy conditions, will send wind chill values down into the teens in some parts of Southeast Michigan on Sunday night and Monday morning. Expect plenty of sunshine Monday. (WDIV)

People in some parts of Southeast Michigan woke up to light snow accumulations, including up to two inches in Lapeer.

Skies will clear, but the wind will remain an issue. A gale warning continues for most of Lake Huron until Monday morning. A small craft advisory will be in effect for the nearshore waters of Southeast Michigan, including Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair, and Lake Erie, until Monday morning.

Sunday Night

Under clear skies, lows will dip into the mid to upper 20s on Sunday night. Winds will howl out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph and gust up to 30 mph. The cooler temperatures and breezy conditions will lead to wind chills in the teens to around 20 degrees.

Monday

We will feel the effects of a high-pressure system, which will result in sunny to mostly sunny skies on Monday. Highs will be in the lower to mid 50s. Some clouds will develop over the area on Monday night. Lows will be near 40 degrees.

Tuesday-Sunday

A warm front will usher in milder air on Tuesday and push temperatures into the lower 60s, which is more typical of late April. With the mild air staying over Metro Detroit, the chance of a few rain showers will develop on Wednesday along and near a slow-moving cold front. Showers will be possible on Thursday and Friday. While Saturday could bring a few rain showers, the better chance will be later in the day with the approach of another cold front. Some of those showers could linger into St. Patrick’s Day, which is next Sunday.

From Monday through next Sunday, the normal highs are 44 to 46 degrees in Metro Detroit. The normal lows for that period are 27 to 29 degrees.
