Metro Detroit is getting a reminder this weekend that it is still winter.
4Warn Alerts
Gusty winds are prompting a gale warning for most of Lake Huron, including the nearshore waters from Port Sanilac and north, from Sunday morning until Monday morning.
A small craft advisory will be in effect for all nearshore waters of Southeast Michigan, including Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair, and Lake Erie, until Monday morning.
Those gusty winds are being felt on Saturday night. It will be cloudy and breezy with the slight chance of rain and snow showers. Lows will be around 30 degrees. Winds will be out of the west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. Little to no snow accumulation is expected in most areas, but a better chance of a dusting to half an inch is possible in the Thumb.
Daylight Saving Time
Despite the chance of wintry weather, it is time to “spring forward.”
Daylight Saving Time will begin at 2 a.m. Sunday. This means that we will lose an hour of the day and leap from 1:59 a.m. to 3 a.m. Sunrise will be at 7:53 a.m. and sunset will occur at 7:35 p.m.
Sunday
After losing an hour of sleep on Sunday, we will face blustery conditions with the chance of rain and snow showers. Accumulations up to an inch will be possible with the better chance of light accumulation north of I-696. Some areas will not get any snow accumulation. Clouds will decrease in the afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Northwesterly winds will be 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Sunday night, skies will become mostly clear as lows drop to the mid to upper 20s. Wind will be out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. The breezy conditions will force wind chill values into the teens.
Monday
By Monday, we will feel the influence of a high-pressure system, which will lead to mostly sunny skies. Highs will be in the lower 50s. Lows will be in the mid 30s to 40 degrees.
Rest of the Week
A warm front will usher in milder air on Tuesday and push temperatures into the lower 60s. With the mild air continuing, the chance of a few rain showers will develop on Wednesday along and near a slow-moving cold front. Showers will be possible on Thursday and Friday. While Saturday’s daytime activities could be rain-free, the chance of rain will increase at night with the approach of another cold front.
What’s normal?
Normal highs through next weekend are 43 to 46 degrees, and normal lows are 27 to 29 degrees in Metro Detroit.
