4Warn Weather – It will be a rather seasonal start to this first day of spring, although it won’t really feel like it. We are waking up to cloudy skies and a couple of isolated snowflakes.
Those flurries should wind down after sunrise.
Our Tuesday will be overall cloudy and brisk. Southwesterly winds will help us rise into the 40s this afternoon -- but with gusts around 25-30 mph, it will feel like the 20s and 30s with the wind chill.
Tonight’s sunset is at 7:45 p.m.
The Spring Equinox officially occurs at 11:06 p.m. on Tuesday.
Colder Wednesday with snow chances
A strong cold front will push through Wednesday morning. A few flurries can’t be ruled out, especially in the morning hours.
The headline on Wednesday, however will be the sharply colder conditions. Highs will be back in the 30s (about 10 degrees below average) and wind chills will only be in the 20s.
Sunshine, then more snow chances
Sunshine will return on Thursday with highs in the upper 30s. The day should remain dry.
We’ve got a chance for measurable snow on Friday. By the end of Friday, we could pick up 1-2 inches of accumulating snow *if* rain doesn’t mix in. At this point, there is still some uncertainty to the precipitation type that will move across Metro Detroit.
Friday highs will be in the 30s.
Expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs around 40 degrees this weekend.
Elsewhere ...
Nationally, moderate to heavy lake-effect snow will develop over the Upper Peninsula and downwind from Lakes Erie and Ontario. Snow will develop over parts of the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains into Wednesday.
