4Warn Weather – It’s the first full day of spring, but don’t put the shovels away for the season quite yet.
Although we don’t anticipate significant snow accumulations on this Wednesday, scattered flurries and a few light snow showers stick are possible. We have a better chance for a more impactful snow system on Friday.
Expect rather steady temperatures today in the mid-30s, but feeling like the 20s with gusty winds, once again. Wind gusts could exceed 30 mph out of the northwest, ushering in a cooler air mass.
Clouds will break a little later in the day.
Tonight’s sunset is at 7:46 p.m.
Staying cold before more snow
Temps will stay cold on Thursday with highs back in the 30s, but clouds will give way to some sunshine. The day should remain dry.
Accumulating snowfall is expected for much of Southeast Michigan on Friday. The snow will roll in before daybreak and stick around much of the day.
It is likely that most of Metro Detroit could see 1-2 inches of snow, whereas accumulations of 3-4 inches are possible along and north of M-59.
Snow won’t stick long
That snow won’t stick around too long.
We will be on either side of 40 degrees this weekend with a mix of sun and clouds.
However, a bigger change is anticipated early next week, as mild conditions return with widespread rain showers.
Elsewhere ...
Nationally, lake effect snow bands focused downwind of Lake Ontario in New York, and a developing low pressure system, will spread snowfall east into the northern New England states. Strong, gusty winds and dry air may produce elevated fire weather conditions across portions of the mid-Atlantic and southern Plains on Wednesday.
