Flurry chances on cool Opening Day: Here’s the Metro Detroit forecast

Temps get warmer this weekend

It will be in the early 40s at first pitch just after 1 p.m. Highs will be in the mid 40s, but wind chills will be in the 30s. Besides the mostly cloudy skies, we could see a few flurries and sprinkles. (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Happy Detroit Tigers Opening Day! Do’t forget the hat -- it’ll be cool and breezy today.

This Friday begins with a few flurries or sprinkles possible in the morning. Light snow and/or rain are also possible in the early afternoon. The rest of the day will be dry.

Temperatures will be in the lower 40s at the start of the Tigers game, around 1 p.m.

Highs will be in the lower to mid-40s across Metro Detroit, but it will feel like the 30s due to afternoon wind chills. Winds will move out of the north-northwest at 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

Friday night will be mostly cloudy with lows in the low 30s, and overnight wind chills in the 20s.

Slightly warmer weekend

Temperatures will nudge up to the lower 50s on Saturday. Clouds in the morning will decrease, with skies becoming partly cloudy in the late afternoon and evening. We will remain dry.

At night, it will be mostly clear and cold. Lows will be around 30 degrees.

A high-pressure system positioned over the Great Lakes region will help to limit clouds on Sunday. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs will be in the lower 50s, which is seasonal. Lows will be in the lower 40s.

Average highs through the weekend are 54 to 55 degrees, and the average lows are 35 to 36 degrees.

Solar eclipse forecast for Monday

Eyes will be on the skies on Monday. Metro Detroit will be in the path of the solar eclipse -- at least partially -- but will we see it?

As the moon blocks the sun, some clouds could block our view of both. We will have a mix of sunshine and clouds during the day. A couple of isolated rain showers will be possible in the morning. Expect highs around 60 degrees.

The eclipse will begin just before 2 p.m. in Southeast Michigan, and end at about 4:27 p.m. The maximum coverage of the sun will be around 3:12 p.m. to 3:14 p.m. Be sure to take precautions when viewing, such as wearing certified solar eclipse glasses.

Even warmer next week

Temperatures will reach the mid-60s by Tuesday, getting close to 70 degrees for some. Highs will be in the 60s for most of next week. Expect more rain chances on Wednesday and Thursday.
