Grab the sunglasses as you head out, and soak up the sun while you can this morning. Clouds will return and win out later today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:10 p.m.

Rain chances will return after midnight.

Rain showers to end the week

Keep the umbrella on hand the rest of the week. A large low pressure system will bring widespread rain showers Thursday and Friday.

The heaviest showers will roll in Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon, with generally lighter showers lingering through Friday.

Showers will begin around 12 a.m. Thursday, starting more south and becoming more widespread as they move north through the morning. Showers will be steady throughout the morning drive and through the lunch hour.

Some will see a break in the rain during a few windows Thursday afternoon, after 4 p.m. Showers will become more scattered in the afternoon.

We’ll see a slight lull in the rain around 10 p.m. Thursday. The back edge of this system will roll in by 7 a.m. Friday with more widespread rain. These showers will be on the lighter side, but still steady throughout the morning and afternoon on Friday.

Showers will wrap up after sunset on Friday night.

Forecasted rainfall totals are generally around 1-2 inches through Friday. We will also be contending with windy conditions on Thursday and Friday, with gusts upward of 25 mph.

Windy weekend

We’re looking at a windy weekend ahead.

Saturday is the pick day of the weekend. We’ll briefly dry out and welcome back some sunshine. High temperatures are expected to be in the low 60s.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy with rain chances throughout much of the day, especially the morning hours. However, temperatures will be warmer on Sunday as we rise into the low 70s.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, heavy rain, flash flooding and severe weather will sweep across the South. The low pressure system will bring heavy rain and high winds into much of the East. High winds along with widespread rain are expected to impact the Eastern Seaboard into the Great Lakes Thursday night into Friday morning.
