Waves of rain Tuesday: What to expect in Metro Detroit

Daytime showers with chance for evening storms

4Warn Weather – We have a much milder morning on this Tuesday -- but we won’t warm up a whole lot today. Make sure you grab an umbrella as you head out the door.

Today will be breezy with periods of showers, especially across Metro Detroit and areas south.

Showers will build in this morning, with the best chance for rain at about 7 a.m. We initially thought rain wouldn’t impact the morning commute today, but it may.

Those showers will move through the region, with another chance for an isolated sprinkle or two around 10 a.m. for some.

The better chance for widespread rain will be this afternoon, and will develop south of I-94 starting around 1 p.m. This will stretch into Detroit, but will definitely be more impactful for Monroe and Lenawee counties.

As we head closer to 4 p.m., those showers will lift some, while continuing to fall in areas more south. Moderate showers are expected closer to the state line, while lighter showers will reach into Metro Detroit’s southern counties.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:24 p.m.

There will be a chance for isolated thunderstorms this evening. A line of non-severe storms will arrive after sunset, likely at about 10 p.m.

Brief downpours and gusty winds are possible tonight. Strong winds of 30 mph will be possible in the Thumb late tonight.

We’ll have a few breaks in the clouds before the clouds redevelop heading into Wednesday.

Dry rest of the week

We’ll be cooler but dry on Wednesday into Thursday. We’ll stay breezy Wednesday and highs will take a dip into the 50s.

Temps will rise to the mid-60s on Friday.

Highs in the 70s and rain chances return this weekend.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, unsettled weather and severe thunderstorm chances ramp up across parts of the central and southern Plains this week. Above average temperatures are throughout the western and central United States, with cooler weather in the Great Lakes and much of the East.
