4Warn Weather – Showers and storms are possible across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, including in Metro Detroit, starting Friday and lasting through the weekend.

Northwest-lower Michigan is at a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Saturday, April 27. Southwest and central Michigan counties are at a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather.

The largest severe weather threats for southern Michigan will be gusty winds and large hail. There is a low-medium risk of flooding, and a low risk of tornadoes.

Metro Detroit isn’t expected to experience much severe weather over the next few days, though thunderstorms will be possible at times. We’ll be in and out of the showers throughout the weekend, but it won’t be an all-weekend washout.

Here’s when to expect rain and storms this weekend, according to forecasts by 4Warn Meteorologist Ashlee Baracy.

Rain moves in Friday

Clouds will build in throughout Friday afternoon and evening.

Rain will begin falling around 10 p.m.-11 p.m. Rain will be widespread in Southeast Michigan, with a line of showers running from the northwest to the southeast across the Lower Peninsula.

That line of showers will lift northeast through the late Friday-early Saturday morning hours.

More rain Saturday morning

Showers are possible throughout Saturday morning, with some pickets of heavy rain mixed in.

We’ll see another wave of widespread showers by about 9 a.m. Saturday. A thunderstorm or two will be possible at that time.

Those showers will move out around noon, though clouds will still linger for a few hours. We’ll have a break from the rain throughout the afternoon, with clouds clearing out, too.

Winds will be breezy on Saturday, gusting up to 30 mph.

Clouds will begin building back in late Saturday into early Sunday, however, ahead of the next rainmaker.

Rain, storms overnight into Sunday

Cloud cover will return by 2 a.m. Sunday, with another line of showers stretching straight across Lower Michigan from Grand Rapids to Port Huron. Some northern Metro Detroit counties should see showers at that time.

Isolated severe storms are possible late Saturday into Sunday for those northwest of Metro Detroit.

We’ll see another round of rain around noon on Sunday. Some storms will be possible then.

Looking ahead

Wet weather will stick around next week. Thunderstorms are forecast for Monday, and showers are forecast for Tuesday.
