4Warn Weather – Grab the umbrella and an extra layer as you head this Thursday morning.
Our day begins with temperatures on either side of 50 degrees, but we likely won’t warm up past that today. Highs will be in the 50s this afternoon -- nearly 20 degrees cooler than Wednesday afternoon.
Showers will begin building in this morning, mainly toward the southern Michigan border. Rain showers will increase through the day, and will expand northward, too.
At 9 a.m., widespread rain is expected primarily along and south of I-94. Throughout the day, rain will be heavier for Washtenaw and Wayne counties and south of them.
By noon, rain will continue for those more south. Those more north in Oakland and Macomb counties and north will likely still be dry at that point.
Showers will lift northward in the afternoon, reaching into portions of Livingston, Oakland and Macomb counties. Lapeer, Sandusky and the Thumb region will be mainly dry today, though.
Showers will continue to move eastward through the afternoon, still primarily affecting those more south. Wet weather should move out by 8 p.m. for everyone.

Clouds will clear out overnight into Friday, which will be dry and more mild. Skies will be sunny and highs will be in the low 60s on Friday.
Mother’s Day weekend forecast
The next chance for rain will arrive on Saturday. Showers will be scattered throughout much of the day.
By 9 a.m. Saturday, Southeast Michigan will be clipped by a system bringing scattered showers, largely to areas including and south of Detroit.
Showers will be spotty through midday Saturday, and will be even spottier into the evening. Rain chances will be hit or miss all day.
Highs will be around 60 degrees.
Sunday will be nicer with some sunshine for Mother’s Day. Highs will get closer to 70 degrees again.
High temps will be back in the 70s next week.
Elsewhere ...
Nationally, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Southern Plains/Lower Mississippi Valley and the Tennessee Valley/Southeast today. Meanwhile, heavy snow is expected over the higher elevations of the Central Rockies.
