4Warn Weather – Scattered showers and thunderstorms will slowly move southeast across Southeast Michigan at 10 to 15 mph on Friday evening. Some storms have become strong enough to produce gusty winds and small hail. Downpours could result in ponding on roadways.
The scattered showers and thunderstorms will wind down and move out of the area by 10 p.m. With mostly cloudy skies and light winds out of the east-southeast around 5 mph, patchy fog will develop in some areas. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
Saturday
Patchy fog will cover Saturday morning. Then, the day will be sunny with clouds, including a chance of haze. Due to an expected increase in ozone levels, an air quality advisory will be in effect for Metro Detroit.
Alert
The air quality advisory will be in effect for Saturday, May 18 for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties until midnight.
Pollutants are forecast to be in the “unhealthy range sensitive groups,” such as individuals with asthma and other respiratory diseases and disorders.
Daytime heating and light winds will contribute to the concentration of ozone, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. It is recommended to “avoid strenuous outdoor activities” during the alert. People can limit their contribution to ozone formation by waiting to refuel, driving less, not grilling, and not using gas-powered lawn equipment.
Saturday’s highs will be in the upper 70s to 80 degrees. Winds will be out of the east-southeast at 4 to 8 mph. At night, it will be mostly clear, with lows in the upper 50s.

Sunday
Sunday will be hot and mostly sunny. The sunshine will require precautions while in the sunlight. The UV index will be in the very high range during the afternoon. Some individuals may develop sunburn in as little as 15 to 25 minutes without protection. Applying sunscreen and wearing light-colored and lightweight long-sleeve shirts are ways to protect yourself. Highs will again be in the lower to mid-80s. Lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Next week
The hot weather will continue with highs in the mid-80s on Monday and Tuesday, but the dry weather will come to an end Tuesday. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will start early Tuesday morning and showers Following a warm and dry Monday, and showers will return on Tuesday and stay for early Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to cool into the lower to mid-70s by the end of the next week.
