4Warn Weather – It’s going to be a muggy Monday!
We will be flirting with record highs today as we rise into the upper 80s. The current record for this date is 91 degrees set back in 1977.
These hot and humid conditions will continue over the next few days.
Most of Southeast Michigan is under a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe storms today. Showers and thunderstorms develop this afternoon after 2 p.m. Pop-up storms are possible through the afternoon and early evening, with a better chance for strong to severe storms after 10 p.m.
Brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and small hail will be the main concerns today and tonight. Storm threats specifically include wind gusts of up to 50 mph, and hail up to 1-inch in diameter.
Tonight’s sunset is at 8:53 p.m.
More storms possible Tuesday, Wednesday
More non-severe storms are possible Tuesday afternoon. A line of strong to severe storms is also possible late Tuesday night, which poses the greatest threat for 60 mph wind gusts.
We’ll get another chance for showers and storms early Wednesday morning, likely before 6 a.m. A cooler and less humid airmass will follow on Thursday and stick around for the rest of the work week.
Elsewhere ...
Nationally, the threat for severe weather will continue over the central U.S. into the midweek. Cool conditions with shower and storm chances are forecast from the Rockies to the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile, well above average, summer-like temperatures start the week across much of the central/eastern U.S.
