Warming up in Metro Detroit with a rain chance: What to expect

Mostly dry weekend ahead

4Warn Weather – Thursday begins clear and cool. You will need an extra layer as your head out, but plan for pleasant temperatures today.

Skies will be sunny by the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 70s.

If you need to mow the lawn, today will be a great day to do it!

Sunglasses and sunscreen will be a necessity today. The UV Index will be high, meaning you could experience a sunburn within 20 minutes if your skin is not properly protected.

Tonight’s sunset is at 9:02 p.m.

Clear skies will stick around tonight, and temperatures will slide back into the 40s due to the lack of cloud cover.

Getting warmer for the weekend

Seasonal highs in the mid-70s will return Friday. Expect more sunshine on Friday, too.

Temps will continue to get warmer through the weekend and into next week. Highs will be around the upper 70s on Saturday, and in the low 80s on Sunday. Book your tee time!

Low temps will warm slightly from the 40-degree lows on Thursday, but they’ll still remain in the 50s and 60s over the next several days.

Rain possible Saturday

The forecast is trending mainly dry for the Detroit Grand Prix taking place downtown this weekend.

The only chance for rain appears to be Saturday night into early Sunday morning, which shouldn’t impact the event.

Showers will move into Michigan from the west starting around 5 p.m. on Saturday. The rain will continue to move east, blanketing the Metro Detroit area by around 9 p.m.

Showers will be widespread and light, with chances for heavier rain draping along the state line.

Rain will persist throughout the night, but should move out of Metro Detroit by about 6 a.m. on Sunday. Some showers may still linger in the northeast part of our region, particularly in the Thumb but possibly into Detroit, until around 8 a.m.

We’ll see more rain chances starting Tuesday of next week. We will climb into the mid-80s through the middle of next week.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, additional rounds of thunderstorms, heavy rain, flash flooding and severe weather persists in the central U.S. Meanwhile, heat continues across the Southwest to south Texas and much of Florida. Whereas cooler than average temperatures are forecasted for the Plains and large portions of the eastern U.S. through early this weekend.
