Getting cooler before hot weather returns to Metro Detroit

Warmer weather, rain chances to return midweek in Southeast Michigan

Monday, the early morning clouds will decrease. It will gradually become partly cloudy to mostly sunny by late morning. The cooler air will limit highs to the lower 60s in the Thumb to the upper 60s to near 70 degrees over Metro Detroit. (WDIV)

The breezy weather will continue as it gets much cooler in Metro Detroit. The winds will be out of the northwest at 7 to 14 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Lows will be in the upper 40s in the northwestern suburbs, while lows will be in the lower 50s in Detroit and communities near the shoreline. Overnight, a cold front will sweep over Southeast Michigan. It will usher in cooler air and lead to fewer clouds.

Monday

Monday, the early morning clouds will decrease. It will gradually become partly cloudy to mostly sunny by late morning. The cooler air will limit highs to the lower 60s in the Thumb to the upper 60s to near 70 degrees over Metro Detroit. That will put highs around 10 degrees below normal. Winds will be out of the north-northwest at 8 to 14 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Under mostly clear skies on Monday night, temperatures will fall to 50 degrees in Detroit and down to the mid to upper 40s in Ann Arbor, Howell, Pontiac, Mt. Clemens, Flint and neighboring communities. A few communities, north of I-69 will have temperatures as low as the lower 40s.

Tuesday

A high-pressure system will dominate and deliver mostly sunny skies to Southeast Michigan on Tuesday. Temperatures will rise into the mid 70s. Lows will be in the mid 50s.

Wednesday

A warmer air mass will push over the Great Lakes with highs in the lower 80s on Wednesday. It will be partly cloudy with the chance of an isolated shower. At night, lows will be around 60 degrees.

Thursday

On Thursday, it will be partly cloudy with the chance of a few showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will warm into the mid 80s. At night, showers will be possible as temperatures only fall to the mid 60s.

Friday

A few showers will linger into Friday morning. Otherwise, plan on partly cloudy skies as temperatures reach the lower to mid 80s. At night, it will be mostly clear. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.

Saturday & Sunday

Next weekend, highs will be in the lower 80s. Saturday will be mostly sunny, while Sunday will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Then, as the summer solstice approaches, the heat will rev up even more.
