Sunshine to end week before heat wave hits Metro Detroit

Drier, warm weekend ahead

Heat index values starting next week could go close to or about 100 degrees in some locations (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Drier weather is on tap for the end of the week and the upcoming weekend.

A cold front that sparked showers and thunderstorms on Thursday pulled off to the east overnight into Friday morning. So, while we start the day with a little cloud cover, expect that cloud cover to thin out.

The sky will be mostly sunny for most of the day. Temperatures will be cooler and it will be less humid throughout the day. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s.

Tonight’s sunset is at 9:11 p.m.

Mainly clear skies can be expected overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 50s.

Dry, warm weekend

We’ll have sunshine this weekend mixed with some cloud cover on both days.

As of right now, we will keep the forecast dry the entire weekend. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s on Saturday, and the upper 80s Sunday afternoon.

Next few days at a glance

  • Friday: A few more morning clouds, otherwise becoming mostly sunny. Cooler & less humidity. High: 80. Winds: Northeast 5-10 mph.
  • Friday night: Mainly clear skies. Cooler temps. Low: 57. Winds: Northeast 3-6 mph.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny skies. High: 81. Winds: Northeast 3-6 mph.
  • Sunday night: Partly cloudy skies. Low: 59. Winds: Southeast 3-6 mph.
  • Sunday: Partly cloudy skies, warmer temperatures. High: 87.

Heat wave next week

We are looking at our first sustained heat wave heading our way for the majority of next week. We are looking at well-above-average temperatures across portions of the Midwest through the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, and into the Northeast, including Metro Detroit.

High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s Monday through Thursday. Heat index values will go up to or above 100 degrees each day, once you factor in the humidity.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, the last time we saw four or more consecutive days of high temperatures at or above 90 degrees was July 1-4, 2002. This means we’ll have near record temperatures multiple days next week.

We’ll have the chance for a few showers on Monday, but the day will not be a complete washout. As of now, it appears we could set a record high next Wednesday, and come close other days next week.
