Heat advisory, air quality alert issued as heatwave continues across Metro Detroit

Thursday, Friday highs in lower 90s

After a few hot and humid days across the region, we will keep the heat and humidity in the forecast for the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend before we finally get a break from our first summer heat wave. (Copyright 2024 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved.)

4Warn WeatherHEAT ADVISORY: All of Southeastern Michigan until 10 p.m. Thursday night. Heat index values well into the 90s and possibly into the lower 100s are expected for another day on Thursday.

AIR QUALITY ALERT: Parts of Southeastern Michigan through Thursday for elevated Ozone readings due to the heat and humidity.

After a few hot and humid days across the region, we will keep the heat and humidity in the forecast for the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend before we finally get a break from our first summer heat wave.

We will keep the chance of a few thunderstorms under the forecast through the late evening hours on Wednesday night, thanks to the heat and humidity and a cold front moving in from the west.

A few of the thunderstorms could be strong to possibly severe, the Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the region under a slight risk (2 out of 5) severe weather scale. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall would be the primary threats within any storms moving out of northern Indiana and northern Ohio to lower Michigan.

Otherwise, Wednesday will be warm and humid, with temperatures dropping into the 70s overnight.

Thursday

We do it again on Thursday. I’m extra blessed with sunshine and clouds, but it’s hot and humid, with high temperatures well under the 90s and heat index values closing in on 100°.

Also, a few thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, like we’ve seen the last few days or two of them, could also be on the storm to possibly severe.

Weekend forecast

Our streak of 90° temperatures will continue during the first half of the weekend. We also keep thunderstorm chances in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures will drop into the upper 80s by Sunday afternoon and evening, with a few rain showers possible as a cold front finally clears the area and takes the heat wave with it.

Next week

Looking ahead to Monday for the Ford Fireworks on Monday evening, dry weather finally sticks around with lower humidity values. The high temperature is in the middle 80s Monday afternoon and will drop into the 70s by the time the fireworks kick off Monday evening.

There is another chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday before dry weather moves in for Wednesday, mid-next week. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s on Tuesday and drop into the middle 80s by Wednesday.
