Hot, stormy weather with reduced air quality continues in Metro Detroit

Friday, Saturday highs in lower 90s

4Warn Weather – The Northern Hemisphere’s summer officially began in the afternoon with hot, humid, and stormy weather in Southeast Michigan.

The chance for strong storms and flooding will continue this evening.

The main concerns will be the potential for gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain as storms move to the east and east-southeast at 10 to 20 mph.

Flooding has already been observed across several communities. The depth of standing water can be difficult to estimate, and cars can be moved in as little as a foot of water. Watch for standing water over and roadways and the potential of rising waters from streams.

Tonight, a Heat Advisory continues until Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, and Monroe counties until 10 p.m.

The showers and thunderstorms will mostly end before midnight. Then, it will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the upper 60s to 70 degrees. Non-thunderstorm winds will be northeasterly around 5 mph.

Friday

Tomorrow, an Air Quality Advisory will be in effect for Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Washtenaw, Wayne, and Monroe counties through Friday evening due to the forecast of elevated ozone. The air is expected to be “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” including people with respiratory conditions, infants, and elderly.

It will be partly cloudy and hot with a chance of more showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Highs will return to around 90 degrees. If highs reach 90 degrees at Metro Airport, it would mark the fifth day of the heat wave that started on Monday.

After showers and storms end Friday evening, the region will be left with partly cloudy skies and temperatures falling to around 70 degrees.

However, any nighttime relief will be short-lived. The heat will be reinforced as a warm front pushes northward over the area and ushers in hotter air for Saturday.

Saturday

Skies will be partly cloudy with the chance of a few showers or thunderstorms on Saturday. Highs will reach the lower to mid 90s.

Sunday

Sunday will see temperatures tumble a few degrees as a cold front brings less humid air, but also the chance of morning and early afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s to 90 degrees.

Next week, the weather pattern will remain active with the chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be hot, but temperatures will be more tolerable.
