Severe storms remain possible amid Metro Detroit heat: What to expect

Air quality alert in effect again Friday

4Warn Weather – Heat and humidity will affect the area again on this Friday, but the heat advisory has been lifted for Southeast Michigan.

Highs will be around 90 degrees this afternoon, with heat indices a couple degrees warmer. We are also under an air quality alert today, so try to limit your time outside.

Skies will be partly sunny today while we are stuck in this steamy and stormy pattern.

Scattered strong thunderstorms are expected across all of Southeast Michigan today and this evening. There is a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe storms generally along and south of M-59.

Peak thunderstorm timing is from 2 p.m.-10 p.m., although weaker showers or storms are possible at any time. Damaging wind of 50 to 60 mph is the primary hazard. Localized flooding is also possible.

An air quality advisory for elevated ozone levels is in effect today for Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities and refueling vehicles, or topping off when refueling and/or using gasoline powered lawn equipment.

Tonight’s sunset is at 9:13 p.m.

Skies turn partly cloudy late tonight with lows in the mid 60s to around 70 degrees.

Friday night will also feature the full “strawberry moon.”

More storm, rain chances this weekend

Saturday will be hot and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s.

Thunderstorms will move in Saturday night into Sunday morning with an approaching front. Lows drop to around 70 degrees.

Scattered morning showers on Sunday will give way to partly sunny skies for the second half of the weekend. Sunday will be cooler and less humid. Highs will be in the mid-80s.

Heading downtown on Monday for the Ford Fireworks? That day looks to have the best forecast over the next week. Monday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s.
