Strong to severe storm chances remain on Saturday for Metro Detroit

Cooler changes move in by the end of the weekend

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible once again for Metro Detroit on Saturday (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a hot, humid, and stormy week across the region, that trend continues as we look ahead into the start of the weekend on Saturday.

We’ll keep a mixture of sunshine and clouds into the forecast, but that southwesterly flow will keep the heat and humidity around. High temperature is heading for the load of mid 90s by Saturday afternoon but once you factor in the humidity, heat index values will go into the upper nineties to 100° by late Saturday afternoon.

We also keep the chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast to start the weekend, especially as our frontal boundary that will start to cool things off moves into the region this afternoon and into this evening. And much like we’ve seen the past couple days, some storms that do develop could be strong to possibly severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Marginal (1/5) or Slight (2/5) Risk for severe weather today. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall will be the primary threats, although hail and possibly an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

The thunderstorm chances stick around overnight Saturday night into early on Sunday morning as that frontal boundary and area of low pressure clears the region. So, we will hold on to a few rain showers to start the day on Sunday, otherwise Sunshine moves back into the forecast and a little bit of cloud covers as well. High temperature is heading for the middle 80s by Sunday afternoon.

High-pressure build into the region to start next week on Monday, which keeps the forecast for the Ford fireworks looking fantastic! High temperatures heading into the low mid 80s by Monday afternoon, then dropping into the 70s by the time the fireworks kick off on Monday evening.

Chances of thunderstorms roll back into the region by the middle of next week, with yet another front boundary rolling into the region. Will bring back more humidity into the forecast as well with high temperatures heading into the mid to upper 80s by the time we get to the middle of next week.
