What sort of July weather should we expect around Michigan this year?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their monthly weather outlook for July 2024 this week. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on June 20, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid for the entire month of July

Michigan temperature outlook for July 2024

  • The NOAA outlook calls for a 60-80% chance of above average temps in July for all of Michigan, with an even higher chance in Metro Detroit. That means we could see higher-than-normal summer heat.
  • The average high temp in July in Detroit is 83 degrees. The average low is 66.

Michigan precipitation outlook for July 2024

  • The NOAA outlook shows a 40-50% chance that the southern half of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula sees below average rain in July. The Upper Peninsula is expected to see average rain for the month.
  • Detroit typically sees about 3.5 inches of rain in July.

Bottom line: Metro Detroit could see a hot, dry July this summer.
