Saturday’s weather can be described as hot and humid with showers and thunderstorms tossed into the mix, but relief is on the way.
Following heat indices near 100 degrees in Detroit on Saturday afternoon, cooler and drier air will flow into Southeast Michigan.
Besides an isolated shower or thunderstorm, it will be partly cloudy and breezy. Lows will be around 60 degrees in Detroit, Warren, Livonia, Dearborn, Woodhaven, and Monroe and the mid 50s in Ann Arbor, Flint, Lapeer, Sandusky, and Romeo. Winds will be out of the west-southwest at 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Sunday
The cooler air will be noticeable on Sunday. Temperatures will top out in the mid 60s to lower 70s under mostly cloudy skies, which is around 10 degrees cooler than normal. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Besides the gusty winds and cool temperatures, it will be comfortable.
Sunday night, clouds will decrease. Under partly cloudy skies, temperatures will fall to the lower 50s in most areas. A few communities, especially in the Thumb, will get into the upper 40s.
Monday
As a high-pressure system drifts over Southeast Michigan and Southwestern Ontario on Monday, it will be a mostly sunny and comfortable Canada Day. Highs will be in the mid 70s. Lows will fall to mid to upper 50s.
Tuesday
Warmer will return for Tuesday as a warm front sweeps across the region. It will be mostly cloudy. Highs will be around 80 degrees. Overnight temperatures will stay mild with lows in the upper 60s.
Wednesday
More showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Wednesday amid hot and humid conditions. Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 80s to 90 degrees in Metro Detroit. Lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.
Thursday
Thursday, or Independence Day, will be warm, partly cloudy, and mostly dry. There is a slight chance of a few showers. A cool, dry air mass will retreat as warmer air pushes northward over Southeast Michigan during the day. Highs will be in the mid 80s. Lows will be in the upper 60s to 70 degrees.
More hot weather is expected in July. The Climate Prediction Center’s outlook shows good chances of temperatures being hotter than normal.
