Strong storms possible in Metro Detroit on Friday

Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, evening

Showers and thunderstorms are expected, some strong to severe Friday afternoon and evening (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – We are keeping the chances of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast on Friday.

Another area of low pressure and frontal boundary will work through the region looking ahead into Friday afternoon and evening. We are expecting showers and thunderstorms to move through the region as well. High temperatures heading for the middle 80s for Friday afternoon.

With enough instability for those thunderstorms with the front moving through, we could see a few stronger thunderstorms as well. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather on Friday. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall would be the primary threats with any thunderstorm that develops.

Once that boundary moves out of the region, that sets us up for a 50/50 weekend. Warm temperatures and lower humidity values. Partly cloudy skies can be expected for Saturday, as the low-pressure system works north of the region, we are going to have enough support for a few rain showers Saturday afternoon and evening. High temperatures cooler, heading into the lower 80s on Saturday. As high pressure builds into the region for the end of the weekend on Sunday, expect plenty of sunshine. Warmer temperatures will move into the region as well. High temperatures heading for the middle 80s by the end of the weekend.

Our chances of showers and thunderstorms increase looking ahead into early next week. High temperatures in the middle 80s Monday and Tuesday can be expected with a little bit of sunshine between some of those thunderstorms on Monday, with better chances of more widespread thunderstorms on Tuesday.

Drier weather moves into the region for the middle of next week, high temperatures into the middle 80s for Wednesday, before another chance of showers and thunderstorms moves into the region by Thursday. High temperatures a few degrees cooler, into the lower 80s by Thursday afternoon.
