Possible spotty showers this weekend with drier air over in Metro Detroit

Saturday, Sunday highs in lower 80s

4Warn Weather – Clouds are beginning to break across Southeast Michigan as the threat of strong thunderstorms diminishes.

A few showers and thunderstorms will make it into the area, but they will gradually weaken and dissipate during the evening. An isolated storm could have heavy rain and gusty winds, but the thunderstorms will not have the strength observed from storms in some parts of Mid-Michigan and the Thumb. Several communities across the state suffered storm damage on Friday afternoon and evening.

The rain helps to cleanse the air from some fireworks pollution. Friday began with hazy and smoky conditions largely due to fireworks in Metro Detroit. The air quality dropped to “hazardous” levels in some communities. Beneath cloud cover and rain showers in the area, temperatures stayed in the 70s for much of the afternoon. Temperatures rose into the lower 80s in the Detroit area during the early evening as clouds gave way to some sunshine.

Friday night, following evening showers and storms, will be partly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower to mid-60s.

Saturday

A less humid air mass will drift over the area for the weekend. Some spotty showers are possible on Saturday, but most areas stay dry. Skies will range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, with highs in the upper 70s to 80 degrees. Under partly cloudy skies, nighttime temperatures will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Monday

The hot weather will be back on Monday. Highs will be in the mid-80s to near 90 degrees, and lows will be in the mid- to upper 60s.

Tuesday

While a few showers will move into the area late Monday night, the better chance of rain will be Tuesday. Tuesday’s chance of showers and thunderstorms will last from morning until night. Highs will be 80 to 85 degrees, and lows will be 60 to 65 degrees.

Tropical Storm Beryl

Nationally, Southeast Texas is bracing for Beryl. Beryl was a tropical storm on Friday evening, but it was expected to strengthen into a hurricane before a possible landfall on Monday. In the U.S., hurricane watches were in effect for the southernmost areas of Texas, near South Padre Island, and northeastward to near Freeport, Texas.
