Line of thunderstorms expected to roll into Metro Detroit Sunday morning

Damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall possible

Showers and thunderstorms move into Metro Detroit for the first half of Sunday, some could be strong to severe (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – We are going to keep the dry weather in the forecast to start the weekend with more summer heat, and humidity on the way.

High pressure will control the forecast to start the weekend, that means plenty of sunshine across the region. We will hold onto an isolated rain shower east of Metro Detroit along the shoreline, but most everyone will stay dry. High temperature is heading into the upper 80s by Saturday afternoon.

Overnight Saturday night into early on Sunday morning, we will watch the clouds increase after midnight and anticipation of a line of thunderstorms heading toward the region. We should stay dry until around sunrise. Overnight low is warmer and more humid. Will drop it to the upper 60s overnight tonight into early on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning storms

We are looking at a line of thunderstorms rolling into the region Sunday morning as a cold front presses through the region. A few of these storms could be strong to possibly severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather as this line of storms rolls through.

Damaging wins, large hail, and heavy, heavy rainfall will be the primary threats. This line of thunderstorms will roll east of the region by lunchtime, and we do see some sunshine heading into the afternoon. Temperature is warmer and more humid yet again, as we head into the upper 80s to near 90°.

Next week

Looking ahead to early next week, we will keep the chances of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast along with the heat and humidity. High temperature is heading for the lower 90s on Monday, then back into the upper 80s to near 90° on Tuesday. we will keep an eye on the chance for any of the thunderstorms on those days to be strong to possibly severe as the heat and humidity sticks around. Heavy rainfall would be possible some of these thunderstorms as we will have plenty of moisture to work with.

A pattern shift moves ahead and end of next week and will bring cooler and less humid weather into the region. Expect partly cloudy skies Wednesday through the end of next week on Friday. High temperatures into the lower 80s on Wednesday, will cool off into the upper 70s by Thursday. And expect temperatures to warm back up into the lower 80s by the end of next week on Friday.

  • Saturday night: Mainly clear skies. Warmer and more humid. Low: 68. Winds: SE 3-6 MPH.
  • Sunday: Partly cloudy skies. A chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the morning hours. High: 89. Winds: SW 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 20 MPH.
  • Sunday: Partly cloudy skies. Remaining humid. Low: 71. Winds: SW 5-10 MPH.
  • Monday: Partly cloudy skies, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Hot and humid. High: 90.
