Rain trying to return to Metro Detroit before end of weekend but, it’ll struggle

Flood warning continues for Huron River in Livingston County

Whether you plan to go to Blake’s Lavender Festival in Armada, the Riverfront Music Festival in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, the Concert of Colors at and around the Detroit Institute of Arts, Festa Italiana at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights, the Festival of Chariots at the Novi Civic Center, or the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport near Ypsilanti, the weather will be kind to Metro Detroit through the weekend.

That does not necessarily mean completely free of rain.

Saturday night

Following a stunning Saturday with ample sunshine to start the day, Saturday night will be partly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower 60s.

Sunday

Sunday will bring similar temperatures, with highs in the lower 80s, but a weak cold front will influence sky conditions. It will be partly cloudy in the morning, but it will become mostly cloudy in the afternoon as a cold front sweeps across the area.

Along and even behind the cold front, a stray shower cannot be ruled out during the afternoon and evening. Working against this chance of a shower will be dry air. Most areas will not see any rain. Winds will be light northwesterly winds.

Sunday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with lows in the lower to mid-60s.

Next week

Monday will also bring mostly cloudy skies, with the chance of an isolated afternoon or evening shower. Highs will be in the mid-80s and lows in the lower to mid-60s.

Better chances of rain showers and a few thunderstorms will be Tuesday through Thursday. The highs are forecast to be in the lower to mid 80s with lows in the lower to mid 60s.

Flood warning for Huron River

Despite the mostly calm weather, the flood warning for the Huron River in Livingston County has been extended until early Monday morning. Minor flooding was still being observed on Saturday evening with a stage of 7.1 feet. The river is expected to fall below the flood stage of 7 feet by Sunday afternoon.

This period averages as the warmest part of the year. Normal highs are 84 degrees at Detroit Metro Airport, and normal lows are 65 degrees. Average or normal temperatures begin to slowly drop heading into August. The average high for Aug. 1 is 83 degrees, but the average high for Aug. 31 is 79 degrees.
