Umbrella weather: Chance of showers to start workweek in Metro Detroit

Sunshine to end week in Southeast Michigan

After a hotter-than-normal June with a heat wave in Southeast Michigan, temperatures have largely been near normal to slightly below normal this month.

Metro Detroit’s seasonable weather will continue through the week. Sunday night into Monday will bring mostly cloudy conditions. Early morning lows will be near 65 degrees in Detroit, Downriver and Monroe, lower 60s for most other communities in Metro Detroit, and mid to upper 50s in the Thumb.

Monday

A front, which is the boundary of separating two air masses, will stall over Southeast Michigan. This will give Southeast Michigan mostly cloudy skies with the chance of a couple of showers Monday afternoon and early evening. Highs will be in the lower 80s, and winds will be easterly around 5 mph.

Monday night will be partly cloudy. Lows will be around 60 degrees in Ann Arbor, Lapeer and Port Huron and the mid 60s around Detroit.

Tuesday

Sky conditions will improve for Tuesday. It will be partly cloudy with the chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm. Highs will be in the mid 80s. Lows will be in the lower to mid 60s.

Wednesday and Thursday

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Wednesday, and a couple of lingering showers are possible early on Thursday. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s both days. Lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Otherwise, plenty of sunshine is expected from Thursday through next weekend.

This period averages as the warmest part of the year. Normal highs are 84 degrees at Detroit Metro Airport, and normal lows are 65 degrees. Average or normal temperatures begin to slowly drop heading into August. The average high for Aug. 1 is 83 degrees, but the average high for Aug. 31 is 79 degrees.
