Sweltering heat, humidity continues in Southeast Michigan as storm chances linger

Marginal risk for severe weather across portions of Southeast Michigan

4Warn Weather – It’s a sticky start and we are not done with the oppressive heat and humidity yet.

We start the day with some sunshine, but clouds will be rolling in by late morning and midday. Sunrise is at 6:27 a.m.

Temperatures will rise to either side of 90 again across Southeast Michigan with the feels-like temperatures in the mid-90s this afternoon.

Prolonged time outdoors without staying properly hydrated could lead to heat exhaustion, so this is a reminder to make sure you drink water before you start feeling thirsty today if you have to work outdoors. This is because high humidity slows down sweat evaporation.

Thunderstorm chances will be low today, but I won’t rule out an isolated storm late this afternoon and evening. We do have a marginal risk for strong to severe storms on tap tonight as chances increase after 9 p.m.

Sunset is at 8:52 p.m.

Friday and weekend

Thunderstorm chances will increase tonight and persist through the day Friday.

Some of these storms will produce heavy rain and a few storms will be capable of producing a brief interval of gusty winds between 40-60 mph.

Warm and humid conditions will persist through Saturday with the heat index reaching the lower 90s again on Saturday.

Actual air temperatures are forecasted to top out in the upper 80s through the weekend. A cold front moves through Sunday night into Monday bringing relief from the heat and humidity for next week with more seasonal temperatures on tap.
