Slow moving showers bring heavy rain, flooding potential to Metro Detroit

Rain will be off and on throughout the day and Friday night

4Warn Weather – It’s a soggy start and we are not done with the rain yet. Give yourself some extra time on the roads today as rounds of rain could result in ponding and pooling for your drive this morning and again this afternoon.

Sunrise is at 6:28 a.m.

Scattered showers this morning will wane, but showers and thunderstorms return this afternoon/evening into early tonight. They will be slow moving and capable of producing heavy rainfall rates.

The highest rates are expected to fall during this afternoon. Most areas will receive a quarter inch or less, but there will be potential for localized areas to receive 1 to 2 inches by Saturday morning.

Localized flooding is possible today, especially across low lying, and flood prone areas. If you see standing water on the roads, turn around.

Also, use the center lane so you don’t hydroplane. Otherwise, temperatures will be more seasonal today as rain showers keeps highs in the low 80s, but the humidity will remain high making it feel closer to 90.

Sunset is at 8:51 p.m.

Warm and humid conditions will persist through Saturday with heat indices reaching near 90 again on Saturday. Highs this weekend will be in the upper 80s with rather dry conditions.

A cold front moves through Sunday night into Monday eventually bringing relief from the heat and humidity by the middle of next week. Highs will fall into the 70s next week as well.
