Risk of severe thunderstorms on another oppressively hot Metro Detroit day

Greatest chance for strong storms comes Monday afternoon, night

4WARN WEATHER – Metro Detroit starts the workweek with a chance of severe thunderstorms on another oppressively hot and humid day.

There is a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms Monday along and south of M-59 to I-94, and a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) along and south of I-94 to the state line.

As temperatures soar into the upper 80s, it could feel nearly 10 degrees warmer with the heat index.

An active window of showers and thunderstorms gets underway as a strong, but slow-moving, cold front settles southward across Southeast Michigan later Monday and into Tuesday. The primary timeframe for the strongest storms is from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday

Gusty winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding are possible Monday evening through Tuesday morning.

There is a low-end threat of an isolated tornado. The severe risk shifts to a marginal threat along and south of I-96 on Tuesday.

Rest of this week

We will tumble in temperatures Tuesday, with highs in the low 70s.

Dry and cooler weather with lower humidity moves in midweek and beyond offering up a nice stretch of weather.

Our highs will rebound to either side of 80 degrees on Wednesday through the rest of the week and upcoming weekend.
