What to know as heavy rain, chance of severe storms approach Metro Detroit

Damaging wins, flooding, hail, tornado possible

4WARN WEATHER – Heavy rainfall and a chance of severe storms are approaching Metro Detroit on Tuesday.

Rounds of rain are already rolling through the area Tuesday morning. A marginal to slight risk of severe thunderstorms exists over portions of Southeast Michigan, as these storms move west to east around 20-30 mph.

  • Where: From the Ohio state line to as far north as M-59, but the greater potential will exist in Monroe County.
  • When: Until 4 p.m. Tuesday (greatest potential for severe weather after 11 a.m.).
  • Threats: Damaging winds, isolated flooding, large hail, and isolated tornado.

Temperatures will steadily stay in the 60s and low 70s on Tuesday -- a big dip from the mid-80s on Monday.

Dry and milder weather with lower humidity moves in Wednesday, which then persists through the rest of the week into the weekend.
