Showers and thunderstorms kick off Dream Cruise weekend in Metro Detroit

Weekend will not be a complete washout

An area of low pressure moving through the region will keep the weather on the active side of things through the weekend (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a little bit of sunshine, and a few showers to end the week, we will keep some wet weather in the forecast this weekend.

As the Woodward Dream Cruise kicks into high gear today, while we will see some sunshine, we will also need the umbrellas and the tents with a few rain, showers, and a few thunderstorms possible this afternoon and into this evening. Any of these showers or thunderstorms, could put down some briefly, heavy rainfall, so be sure you have an alternate plan if you are under one of the showers or thunderstorms today. High temperatures for Saturday heading for the lower 80s.

Thanks to a slow-moving area of low pressure, the active weather from Saturday will stick around for the end of the weekend on Sunday. Much of the same can be expected, a little sunshine, a few showers and a few thunderstorms, especially into the afternoon and evening. High temperatures just a few degrees cooler, will head into the upper 70s by Sunday afternoon.

Next week

As that low-pressure center works off to the east, we will dry things out as we look ahead into the first part of next week. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds for Monday, before mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for Tuesday. High temperature is remaining below average into the 70s to start next week.

We’re going to watch a dip in the jet stream move through the region as we go throughout the first part of next week. That is going to bring cooler air in from Canada, and the below-average temperatures back into the forecast. Expect high temperatures into the 70s, and overnight lows Monday night through Wednesday night to be into the 50s. A few more days ahead to give the air-conditioning a break and open the windows.

We keep dry through the end of week. A warm-up is on the way by the end of the week on Friday. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds by the end of the week with high temperatures back into the lower 80s by Friday.
