SE Michigan to be under marginal risk for severe weather this weekend -- here’s what to expect

Thursday high in lower 80s; Friday highs in upper 80s

As a cold front rules into the region on Friday, we could see yet another round of severe weather. The storm prediction center has placed all of Southeastern Michigan under a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather. (Copyright 2024 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved.)

4Warn Weather – After the severe weather we had on Tuesday, we’ve kept a little bit of sunshine and a little bit of cloud cover throughout the day Wednesday, and we’re also tracking a few thunderstorms into the evening hours tonight.

We could have one or two stronger thunderstorms, but we are not expecting the type of severe weather we had on Tuesday. Some cloud cover is forecast tonight, with overnight lows dropping into the 60s.

Thursday

Our boundary that brought the severe weather on Tuesday has moved south into the Ohio Valley and will stay there as we did throughout the day on Thursday.

High-pressure will build into the region, giving us a little sunshine and keeping a little cloud cover around two. High temperatures will remain in the 80s for Thursday afternoon.

Friday

As a cold front rules into the region on Friday, we could see yet another round of severe weather. The storm prediction center has placed all of Southeastern Michigan under a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather.

Damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall should be the primary threats as that frontal boundary moves through Friday afternoon and into Friday evening. High temperatures will remain warm and humid yet again, heading into the upper 80s to near 90°.

Weekend forecast

Once that front moves through the region, we may hold onto a pre-dawn rain shower on Saturday, but most of the day should be dry.

Another cold front moves through by the end of the weekend on Sunday, bringing yet another chance of rain showers to the forecast.

Next week

Before we dry things out, looking ahead to the first half of next week, we will also drop the temperature significantly. Another fall preview is heading our way, with high temperatures into the 70s for the first half of next week.
