Heat, humidity, and storms to kickoff holiday weekend in Metro Detroit

Cold front brings chance for severe storms Friday afternoon, evening

4Warn Weather – A mild and muggy start before we turn hot and humid today with heat indices in the mid-90s in the wake of a warm front lifting through the region.

We start the day with a mix of sun and clouds, but most of Southeast Michigan is under a slight (level 2) risk for severe weather later today.

Showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms will track mainly north of I-69 during midday. Secondary thunderstorm development with a greater severe threat is then anticipated after 4 pm through 10 pm with a passing cold front.

These will likely start spotty before turning into a more organized line as it pushes through Southeast Michigan. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated tornado will all be possible.

Sunset is at 8:10 p.m.

Temperatures will gradually cool through the holiday weekend with highs on Labor Day in the low 70s. Outside of a low chance for a shower on Sunday with a secondary cold front, we are looking at a mainly dry holiday weekend into early next week.
