4Warn Weather – The seasonal temperature outlook for the winter months in Michigan has been revealed by the Climate Prediction Center.
After our string of above-average temperatures from August through September, you’re probably wondering, “What does it look like as we head into the winter months?”
Well, if what we have seen is any indication, it looks like this trend of above-average temperatures is going to continue.
The Climate Prediction Center has posted its seasonal temperature outlook, which covers the months of December 2024 through February 2025.

The outlook paints a broad range of probabilities for above-average temperatures, from the northeast United States all the way down through the Gulf Coast and out into the Western U.S, with chances for below-average temperatures from the Pacific Northwest through Montana and portions of the Dakotas.
For Southeastern Michigan, we are leaning in the above-average trend for temperatures, but just because this type of outlook comes out, it does not negate the chance of seeing some cold outbreaks and winter storms, as we have throughout the winter season.
Here’s the average temperature data for these months for Detroit Metro Airport:
- December high: 37.2°
- December low: 25.3°
- January high: 32.3°
- January low: 19.2°
- February high: 35.2°
- February low: 20.8°
And just in case you were wondering how much snow we see on average every month during this period, here’s that information, as well:
- November: 1.9″
- December: 8.9″
- January: 14.0″
- February: 12.5″
While we don’t have the “official” NOAA Winter Outlook just yet, if this is any indication, we may be looking at a milder-than-average winter for the end of 2024 and start of 2025.
