Metro Detroit’s weather is seasonable and mostly calm, but conditions drastically differ in Florida and other parts of the southeast.
On Thursday evening, Hurricane Helene became a Category 4 in the Gulf of Mexico.
The major hurricane was expected to land in the Florida Big Bend on Thursday night.
The hurricane will begin to weaken after landfall, but its fast speed will allow it to push powerful winds well inland before any substantial weakening.
In Southeast Michigan, Thursday night will remain mostly cloudy. Lows will be around 60 degrees near Detroit, Dearborn, Adrian, and Monroe.
It will be in the lower to mid-50s in much of the Thumb, Flint, and Howell areas.
A breeze will blow out of the east-northeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Friday
Friday will be mostly cloudy and breezy. Winds will be out of the east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph in Metro Detroit.
Shoreline communities of Monroe County will experience gusts in excess of 30 mph. Southeast Michigan’s afternoon temperatures will peak in the mid-70s.
Friday night will be cloudy, with a few showers approaching from the south. The better chance of showers will be south of I-94, and a lower chance to the north after 9 p.m. That means the Local 4 Game of Week featuring Harper Woods vs. Birmingham Groves will likely stay dry. Lows will fall into the upper 50s to lower 60s.
This Weekend
Plan for a wet weekend in Metro Detroit.
As the remnants of Helene briefly stall over the Tennessee and Ohio valleys, Southeast Michigan will have showers.
Saturday and Sunday will be cloudy with shower chances. Highs will be in the lower 70s, and lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Winds will be out of the northeast, about 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.
Monday
Monday will be mostly cloudy, with a few showers in the area. Regional highs will be 70 to 75 degrees, and lows will be around 60 degrees.
Tuesday
A cold front will push across Southeast Michigan on Tuesday. It will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with the chance of a couple of showers. While Tuesday’s highs will be in the lower 70s, cooler air will flow into the region behind the cold front.
Tuesday night’s lows will be in the 40s, and Wednesday’s highs will be in the lower to mid-60s.
