4Warn Weather – Summerlike weather is paying Metro Detroit a visit, but fall will battle its way back into our lives later this week.
Following a warm and sunny weekend, Monday’s temperatures have soared to around 20 degrees above normal and reached record territory in Southeast Michigan. Multiple communities made it to 80 degrees or greater.
The record high is 81 degrees, which was set in 1920 and last tied in 2007 at Detroit Metro Airport. The record low is 17 degrees from 1974. The average high and low temperatures for the date, Oct. 21, are 60 and 42 degrees.
Flint’s record high is slightly higher at 83 degrees (1953).
Monday evening will remain warm with temperatures in the 70s in Southeast Michigan. If you plan to be outdoors, catch the sunset at 6:37 p.m. in Port Huron, 6:40 p.m. in Detroit, 6:41 p.m. at Metro Airport in Romulus, and 6:44 p.m. in Chelsea.
Overnight temperatures will eventually fall to the lower to mid 50s with mostly clear skies. Winds will be out of the southwest around 5 mph.
Tuesday
Tuesday will be another warm day, but short of records. Highs will be in the lower to mid 70s, but there will be a mix of sunshine and clouds.
Tuesday night, lows will be in the lower to mid 50s. It will be partly cloudy with the chance of a few sprinkles Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
Wednesday
Wednesday will bring the chance of an isolated shower over the Thumb as a cold front sweeps across the region. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy. Highs will be in the mid 60s to 70 degrees. Westerly and southwesterly winds will be 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Despite being several degrees cooler on Wednesday, the weather will be comfortable in Downtown Detroit as people hang out or head to Little Caesars Arena for the Pistons home opener in the evening.
Wednesday night will be mostly clear. Lows will be in the mid 30s to 40 degrees.
Thursday
Thursday will be cooler and drier behind the cold front. Temperatures will only reach the mid 50s. Lows will be around 40 degrees.
Friday
Friday will be partly cloudy, but there is the chance of a few showers. Highs will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
This Weekend
Are you ready for the big game at the Big House? Michigan football will host Michigan State in Ann Arbor on Saturday evening. Then, the Lions will be back home to host the Tennessee Titans. Temperatures will be near normal this weekend with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy both days.
Tracking the Tropics
In the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Oscar was causing problems in eastern Cuba. Flooding caused by heavy rain was the primary concern on Monday. The storm was slowly moving to the northwest on Monday afternoon. It is forecast to shift toward the northeast and blast the Bahamas with torrential rain and gusty winds on Tuesday.
