Workweek brings wet, windy weather with record warmth to Metro Detroit

Highs to reach mid to upper 70s midweek in Southeast Michigan

As a cool weekend comes to a close, Metro Detroit is expecting record-breaking warmth midweek.

The “temperature seesaw” saw temperatures around 80 degrees last Monday (Oct. 21). During the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 27, much of Southeast Michigan had temperatures in the 20s. Within the next couple of days, highs will be the 70s again.

Under mostly clear skies, Sunday night’s temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s in Metro Detroit. Adrian, Ann Arbor, and a few locales in the Thumb will have lows in the lower 30s.

Monday

After a cold morning, Monday’s highs will be around 60 degrees. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Winds will be south and south-southeast at 5 to 10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.

Clouds will increase on Monday night as a few showers approach. The scattered showers will move through overnight when most people are indoors, but a couple of showers could linger into the Tuesday morning commute. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to 50 degrees.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning will begin with clouds and a few rain showers, but skies will decrease later in the day. The chance of showers will be higher in the Thumb and north of Flint. The winds will pick up to 15 to 20 mph out of the south-southwest. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will blow around leaves.

Behind a warm front, afternoon temperatures will surge to the mid 70s. Metro Airport’s record for Tuesday is 77 degrees, which was set in 1999. The average high is 56 degrees.

Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Wednesday will likely be the warmest day of the week as temperatures make a run for the record high. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Metro Airport's record high is 76 degrees from 1999. (WDIV)

Wednesday

Wednesday will likely be the warmest day of the week as temperatures make a run for the record high. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Metro Airport has a good chance of tying or breaking the record high of 76 degrees (from 1999).

Besides record warmth on Wednesday, it will be breezy and mostly cloudy. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 15 to 20 mph. Gusts will be up to 35 near Detroit and as high as 40 mph near Flint and the Thumb.

Wednesday night’s lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Will Halloween’s weather be a trick or treat?

Thursday, or Halloween, will be rainy, cool, and windy as a cold front sweeps across the region. Highs will be in the mid 60s to 70 degrees. While it will be several degrees cooler, the highs will be 10 to 15 degrees above average.

Is it also a stark contrast to last Halloween (2023). Metro Detroit picked up measurable snow with 0.2 inches at Metro Airport. The nighttime low will be in the lower to mid 40s.

Through the Weekend

The weather will be cooler for Friday and next weekend. Highs will be in the mid 50s to 60 degrees on Friday and Saturday with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.

Next Sunday will be mostly cloudy with rain showers. Highs will be around 60 degrees.
