Will it rain during trick-or-treating? Michigan’s Halloween weather forecast 3 days out

Rain is in the forecast Thursday, but when will it leave?

DETROIT – Is it going to rain during trick-or-treating? The weather forecast for Halloween in Southeast Michigan is showing a close call with three days to go.

There’s a batch of rain that will likely reach Metro Detroit in the early morning hours of Tuesday, and then the rest of that day, as well as Wednesday, should be dry.

But wouldn’t you know it: The next chance for rainfall arrives on Thursday.

The question is whether it’ll move through early enough for a mostly dry evening of trick-or-treating.

There are two models showing very different scenarios -- one that has the rain out of the area by the early afternoon and another that keeps it around into the evening.

The heavier rain is expected reach western Michigan around midnight Wednesday into Thursday. It starts to weaken as it pushes eastward across the state.

According to that model, rain likely arrives in Metro Detroit around 7 a.m. Thursday. We’ll be contending with rain from 8-9 a.m., and onward.

Metro Detroit will still have some remnant moisture around 2-3 p.m. Thursday. The model shows the rain clearing by 6-6:30 p.m.

That would be good timing for trick-or-treaters. The ground might be a bit soggy, but most of the rain would be out of the picture.

Here’s the problem: If that timeline fluctuates by just an hour or two over the next three days, the rain could really have an impact on trick-or-treating plans.

What’s clear is that Halloween will be windy. Gusts will be in the 30 mph range, with a more consistent breeze of about 18 mph.

Temperatures should be beautiful, with a projected high of 71 degrees on Thursday and an overnight low of 43 degrees.

The rain timeline will become clearer as Halloween approaches, so we’ll have more specifics in the days ahead.
