Record warmth, wind, some rain expected for Election Day in Metro Detroit

Tuesday highs in upper 70s; Wednesday highs in upper 60s

It is warm, windy, and periodically rainy.

Metro Detroit has traded the typical cool weather of early November for September-like warmth.

Monday evening will be cloudy, with an occasional rain shower in Southeast Michigan. Temperatures will be in the 60s, and winds will be gusty. Expect winds out of the south and southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts in excess of 25 mph.

Monday night will stay breezy and relatively warm, with lows around 60 degrees. Winds will be out of the south and south-southwest at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Skies will be mostly cloudy.

Tuesday

This Election Day could be Metro Detroit’s warmest presidential Election Day in at least the past four decades (with varying dates in early November). There is also a good chance of breaking the record high for Nov. 5, which is 74 degrees. The average high for Nov. 5 is 53 degrees.

While a couple of showers will be possible Tuesday morning, most of Southeast Michigan is expected to stay dry until the evening. The chance of showers will increase after 7 p.m. as a cold front moves across Southeast Michigan.

Apart from the record warmth and shower chances, it will be mostly cloudy and breezy. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Gusts will be up to 35 mph.

Tuesday night, it will be cloudy with the chance of a few showers. As the winds weaken, small craft advisories. Lows will be in the lower to mid 50s.

Wednesday

Wednesday’s high temperature in the lower to mid 60s is likely to occur early in the morning after midnight. Temperatures will then tumble several degrees into the lower to mid 50s through sunrise. Expect temperatures to rise again, but afternoon temperatures will peak around 60 degrees.

Wednesday night will be partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Bring out the sunglasses for the end of the week.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday will be mostly sunny, with highs around 60 degrees. Lows will be around 40 degrees.

Saturday

Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 50s to 60 degrees. Lows will be in the lower to mid 40s.

Sunday

Rain showers will return on Sunday. Highs will be around 60 degrees.
