Several areas of Michigan are expected to get snow this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Some areas can expect to see rain turn into snow, with the first snowflakes arriving Wednesday evening after sunset and early Thursday morning.

Here’s everything to know about how much snow is expected to arrive in Michigan this week.

When will snow arrive in Metro Detroit?

Most of Metro Detroit will see snow arrive from 3-4 a.m. on Thursday.

This will be a wet snow that isn’t expected to stick because the ground isn’t frozen.

While a big snow storm isn’t in the forecast, drivers should give themselves extra time for their commutes Thursday morning as the roads may be slick.

How much snow is expected for Northern Michigan?

Unlike in Metro Detroit, northern lower Michigan has the best chance of seeing snow accumulate, according to the National Weather Service.

It is possible that this area of the state will get 2-5 inches of wet, heavy snow, overnight and into Thursday morning.

This will make for “slippery” and “messy” roads for drivers, according to the weather service.

How much snow will Michigan’s Upper Peninsula get?

Rain will spread out from east to west Wednesday, with wet snow mixing in Thursday. Snow accumulations over high terrain will be 2-4 inches, according to the weather service. The snow will turn back to rain Thursday afternoon.

How much snow is expected across Michigan?

The National Weather Service says 1-2 inches of snow is expected in the Grand Rapids area, with 2-3 inches expected near Kalamazoo.

The wet, slushy snow will accumulate in some areas.
