DETROIT – Metro Detroit is expected to get at least 1-2 inches of snow by Friday evening.

Snow moves into Metro Detroit

Metro Detroiters might have spotted a few flakes already flying in Thursday afternoon, but that’s just the beginning and more is on the way.

Intensity and coverage of snowfall is expected to pick up through the evening hours, especially closer to midnight into Friday morning.

Snowfall will be at it’s heaviest during the overnight hours and Friday morning. This means your Friday morning commute could be a little slow.

A few snow showers remain possible Friday afternoon, but should taper down.

How much snow will Metro Detroit get?

Much of Metro Detroit is looking at around 1 to 2 inches of snow by the time it’s all said and done Friday evening.

We could see slightly less snow southeast, towards Lake Erie, and slightly more snow further north, closer to the thumb.

A few flakes are possible on the backside of the system on Saturday, but snow will be few and far between.

Temps drop below normal

Behind the snow it gets colder this weekend with temperatures expected to drop below normal.

Highs Saturday and Sunday are in the middle-to-upper 20s.

More snow next week

The long range data is showing that we could get some light snow later Monday.

Latest runs suggest a few of us, especially closer to Ohio, could see a couple of cold raindrops mixed in.

Will we have snow Christmas morning?

After the cold weekend, we’re back in the 30s next week and eventually warming to near 40 by Thursday.

With highs Tuesday and Wednesday in the middle-to-upper 30s, some melting is possible, but it is possible that we could have some snow on the ground Christmas morning.
