DETROIT – Keep the umbrellas at your side the next few days, as rain chances hang around to end the week and through the weekend.
For the rest of this Thursday, clouds stick around along with a little bit of drizzle and perhaps some fog. During the overnight a few light rain showers are possible, as temperatures drop into the middle 30s. Once again some fog is possible.
Friday and the weekend
Friday scattered showers are expected through the day, with chances looking best and most widespread later in the evening. It’ll be a milder day with highs in the middle 40s, around 10 degrees above normal for this time of the year.
The warming trend continues Saturday as we get into the middle 50s, some 20 degrees above where we should be. Rain chances continue Saturday as well, though it won’t be an all-day wash-out type event.
Sunday’s forecast is a little more tricky, as the track of this next area of low pressure is a little back and forth, and this ultimately decides where rain chances are best. The latest thinking has rain chances around, but are best further east closer to Ontario. The further west you are Sunday, the better chance you have to stay dry. However if this low shifts a little bit, that will change rain chances drastically.
Next week, end of the year
To wrap up 2024, another system brings us the chance for rain and snow. This system is similar to Sundays, as a subtle shift in the track of this system may mean all rain, or all snow. We’ll have to fine-tune this part of the forecast.
The start of 2025 looks colder, windy and perhaps snowy. We’ll be on the back side of the New Year’s Eve. system and with it we’ll likely see lake-effect snow showers set up for both Wednesday and Thursday.
