MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy skies. Low: 33.

TUESDAY (NEW YEARS EVE): Mostly cloudy skies. A chance of rain showers changing to rain and snow showers. High: High: 39.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy skies, a chance of snow showers. Low: 32.

WEDNESDAY (NEW YEARS DAY): Cloudy skies, a chance of snow showers. Colder temperatures. High: 36.

THURSDAY: Cloudy skies, a few flakes are possible. High: 30.

Dry weather returns to the forecast for the start of next week on Monday, mostly cloudy skies to start the day before we get some breaks in the clouds for a little sunshine. High temperatures remaining in the middle 40s by Monday afternoon. Winds will be breezy throughout the day, expect gusts upwards of 30 to 35 MPH most of the day, making it feel like it is in the 20s and 30s for most of the day.

Our next system moves into the region Tuesday, and this looks to be rain showers transitioning over to snow showers as cooler air works into the region. High temperature is heading for the upper 30s by Tuesday afternoon. Any snow accumulation that does occur will be primarily on grassy or elevated surfaces, and should be no more than a dusting or coating of snow.

Once that low pressure system moves off to the east, we will get a northwesterly flow kicking into the region to start the new year. This will bring colder air into the region, and chances for snow showers and or a few snowflakes Wednesday through the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures into the 30s on Wednesday and Thursday, will drop into the upper 20s by the end of the week on Friday.

We will keep the cloud cover into the forecast to start next weekend. High temperatures remaining below freezing heading into the first weekend of the new year. High temperatures will make it into the upper 20s on Saturday.

Then, we’re keeping an eye on the end of the weekend into early next week. The Climate Prediction Center has placed the region in a risk of well below average temperatures as well as a risk for the potential of heavy snow heading into the end of the weekend and early next week. The data as of Monday Morning shows that we could see a winter storm move into the region by the end of the weekend. I have introduced snow into the forecast late Sunday, so we will continue to “fine tune” that end of the forecast as we work through the week.
