Metro Detroit weather brings slush, slippery spots on New Year’s Eve

A sloppy end to 2024

DETROIT – After a gorgeous spring-like day, winter returns with a mix of rain and snow just in time for the New Year. Increasing clouds overnight out ahead of our next weathermaker posed to move in just after the morning commute. A few light rain showers and wet snowflakes are possible in the early morning hours but a quick change over to rain by mid-morning. Rain persists until around 3 p.m. when a change over to snow begins north and west of Metro Detroit.

If you live in Howell, Brighton or over to the northwest parts of Oakland County you will see the change over first. Light snow fills in after about 7 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m. The ground is still relatively warm so it looks to be more of a slush situation, but there could still be some slippery spots.

New Year’s Day brings a chance for a few more snow showers, but nothing too heavy. Cold air settles in for the rest of the week with highs only in the upper 20s.

A few degrees below our average high of 34.
