Cold snap hits Metro Detroit with snow showers, wind, slippery roads

A sloppy end to 2024 and a cold start to 2025

DETROIT – Rain mixing with snow this evening across Metro Detroit. The changeover to all snow will be complete by around 8 p.m. A slushy accumulation of about an inch or so is possible, especially on the west side. Areas north and west of Detroit have the best chance of getting a slushy accumulation.

New Year’s Day

After midnight, temps will begin to fall, making roads a bit slippery at times -- especially untreated roads and bridges and overpasses.

New Year’s Day brings a chance for a couple more scattered snow showers. Windy and colder with highs in the 30s but wind chills will be in the upper teens to low 20s.

Then a very cold air mass settles in for the rest of the week and into early next week. Highs will be in the 20s and lows in the teens.
