After some much needed sunshine and cooler temperatures moves in to start the last week of the year, we’ve brought clouds into the forecast overnight before our next chance of rain and snow showers move into the region for New Year’s Eve.

Our next system moves into the region Tuesday, and this looks to be rain showers transitioning over to snow showers as cooler air works into the region in the afternoon and evening. High temperatures heading for the upper 30s by Tuesday afternoon. Any snow accumulation that does occur will be primarily on grassy or elevated surfaces, and should be no more than a dusting or coating of snow.

Once that low pressure system moves off to the east, we will get a northwesterly flow kicking into the region to start the new year. This will bring colder air into the region, and chances for snow showers and or a few snowflakes Wednesday through the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures into the 30s on Wednesday and Thursday, will drop into the upper 20s by the end of the week on Friday.

We will keep the cloud cover into the forecast to start next weekend. High temperatures remaining below freezing heading into the first weekend of the new year. High temperatures will make it into the upper 20s on Saturday.

Then, we’re keeping an eye on the end of the weekend into early next week. The Climate Prediction Center has placed the region in a risk of well below average temperatures as well as a risk for the potential of heavy snow heading into the end of the weekend and early next week. The data as of Tuesday Morning shows that we could see a winter storm move into the region for the start of next week as the kids head back to school.

Right now, an area of low pressure looks to develop and move into the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Where this tracks will determine what types of winter weather we see across the region. We are bringing a chance of snow into the forecast to start next week, high temperatures remaining in the 20s.

Beyond the Future4Cast, we will keep the below average temperatures in play for the first half of January as the Climate Prediction Center has continued the trend of well below average temperatures through the middle of the month. Looks like we may have a sustained period of winter-like weather on the way to start 2025.
