4Warn Weather – “If it’s going to be this cold, we might as well have snow.” If I had a dollar for every time I heard this! Well, guess what? We are finally serving up some snow!
We have issued a 4Warn Weather Alert for this afternoon and evening. We stay dry through the morning commute.
This snow maker will be more impactful by this evening. The cold weather is here to stay as well. We likely won’t reach the freezing mark for the next week and possibly beyond.
When to expect first round of snow
A winter weather advisory has been issued for all of southeastern Michigan from 1 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday.
Peak snowfall rates are expected during the evening rush hour, roughly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. During that timeframe rates in excess of a quarter inch per hour are possible resulting in accumulations of 1 to 2 inches of snow within a few hours.
Snow lessens in intensity overnight with total accumulations by early Saturday morning being between 2 to 4 inches for areas within the advisory.
Sunset is at 5:21 p.m.
Second round of snow possible Sunday
Another round of light snow will be possible Sunday afternoon into Monday possibly leading to some slick conditions to start the next work week as a secondary front pushes through. Highs this weekend will be around 30.
Arctic air coming next week
We are tracking another shot of arctic air by the middle of next week which will have high temperatures falling back to either of 20.
