As Arctic air moves through Southeast Michigan, the region will see its coldest temperatures of the season overnight.
The cold temperatures will arrive late on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, with wind chills expected to drop as low as -25 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Due to the extreme temperatures, a cold weather advisory is in effect through noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Lake effect snow showers are also possible on Tuesday, mostly between I-94 and I-96.

After that, temperatures will be on a warming trend for the rest of the week. Next week, snow showers are possible on Monday.

School closures in Metro Detroit
The cold temperatures have also caused many schools in Metro Detroit to cancel classes for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Protecting cars in cold weather
AAA issued a statewide Arctic Air Advisory and shared several tips for drivers to keep their vehicles operable in these extreme weather conditions.
Some tips include keeping gas tanks half full to avoid gas lines from freezing, using the correct windshield washer fluid and parking cars in garages if possible. For more of these tips, visit here.
