Grab an umbrella as you head out this morning and don’t forget a snow scraper for this afternoon. That’s because a change over to snow is expected late in the day, which could result in an inch or two accumulation, but that’s highly dependent on the timing of the changeover and I anticipate lesser amounts for most of Metro Detroit.
However, a band from Howell towards Port Huron likely gets the greater amounts due to the changeover happening sooner there. Meanwhile, rain becomes more widespread again by late morning.
We start to see the rain change to a wet snow from northwest to southeast between 1 p .m. to 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., we will be likely dealing with widespread snow as this pushes out of here late this evening. Temperatures slowly slide through the 30s as the day progresses.
This weekend
Partly sunny and much cooler on Saturday as highs dip into the upper 20s, with morning wind chills in the single digits. I would expect slick conditions Saturday morning on surfaces that haven’t been treated. We then rise back to around 40 on Sunday. However, there is a chance of snow Sunday and Sunday night. Sunday is Groundhog Day!
Next Week
We start with a mild Monday as highs stick around 40, before falling to the more seasonal low-30s the middle of next week. Long-range data is suggesting that there is another chance for a few rain/snow showers on Wednesday with temperatures rising back into the 40s for the second half of the week.
